What each one is
A static HTML site is a set of plain web pages. When someone visits, the server sends the finished page straight away. There is no database and nothing to build on the fly.
WordPress is a content management system. Pages are stored in a database and built each time someone visits, using a theme and a set of plugins. It is popular because it is flexible and easy to edit.
Speed
Static pages are usually very fast, because there is nothing to build before the page is sent. WordPress can be fast too, but it often takes caching, image tools, and careful plugin choices to get there.
Speed matters for two reasons. People leave slow sites, especially on phones. And Google uses page experience as one of many signals. A fast site gives you a small edge before any other SEO work.
Security and upkeep
WordPress needs regular updates to the core, the theme, and every plugin. Skip them and the site can be hacked. Keep up with them and something may break after an update. Either way, someone has to watch it.
A static site has no database and no plugins to attack. There is very little to update. For a small business that just wants a site that works, that is a big plus.
Editing
This is where WordPress wins. Owners can log in and change text, add posts, and upload photos without touching code. If you publish new content every week and want to do it yourself, that matters a lot.
Static sites usually need someone who can edit the files. Small changes are quick, but they are not as easy as clicking edit in a dashboard. Some teams use a simple build tool to make this easier.
Static HTML vs WordPress at a glance
What Google actually cares about
Google does not rank a site higher for being static or for being WordPress. It looks at whether the page is useful, clear, fast, easy to crawl, and trusted.
Both platforms can do all of that. The difference is how much effort it takes. Static sites get speed and clean code for free. WordPress gets easy editing for free. The rest, like titles, headings, schema, internal links, and good writing, depends on who builds and runs the site.
Which one to pick
Pick static HTML if your site is mostly service pages, area pages, and contact info that change a few times a year. You get speed, safety, and low cost.
Pick WordPress if you publish often and want to do it yourself, or you need features that depend on plugins, like memberships or complex forms.
